Description:
A naginata is a Japanese pole katana whose blade has a lot of similarities with that of a katana in terms of forging process and shape. Naginata were used by the samurai, foot soldiers (ashigaru), warrior monks (sohei) and female warriors from noble families (onna-bugeisha). Its long reach makes it an effective manner against mounted enemy or cavalry and against opponents armed with a sword.
SL821 is a naginata with a 1095 high carbon steel blade in unokubi zukuri geometry. The hamon is hand-abrasived. Due to size limitation on shipping packages, the handle of this naginata is shortened similar to the design of a katana's tsuka. It is wrapped with rayskin and synthetic silk ito. The saya is made of hardwood and partially wrapped with genuine rayskin. Buffalo horn is used at koiguchi. Tsuba, fuchia and kashira are made of iron with flower and bufferfly design. The fittings are changeable.
